United Kingdom (UK)-Mauritius joint statement on the Chagos Archipelago, 13 January 2025 – Africa.com
Representatives from Mauritius and the UK held further fruitful discussions in London this week on the future of the Chagos Islands.
Good progress has been made and discussions are ongoing to reach an agreement that serves the interests of both parties.
The two countries reaffirmed their commitment to a treaty establishing Mauritius’ sovereignty over the Chagos Archipelago; this would ensure the long-term, safe and effective operation of the Diego Garcia base.
