Grand Slam of Darts: Michael van Gerwen knocked out but Luke Littler through to last-16
Michael van Gerwen failed to reach the last 16 of the Grand Slam of Darts after losing 5-4 to Ryan Joyce.
The Dutch twice fought back from two legs behind in the Group G decider but failed to qualify with 112 points, with Joyce sealing victory with 80 points.
This is the first time since 2010 that three-time world champion Van Gerwen has failed to enter the knockout stages of the event.
Luke Littler advanced to Group F unbeaten with a nine-dart victory over Lourence Ilagan 5-3.
The Wolverhampton fans were on their feet when the 17-year-old Littler hit seven consecutive treble 20s and a treble 19, but he missed a double 12.
Elsewhere, Dimitri van den Bergh beat Keane Barry 5-1 and finished runner-up to Littler, while Mike Dedecker Decker defeated Michael Smith 5-0 to secure second place in Group E.
Stephen Bunting secured his spot in the last 16 with a 5-2 win over Josh Rock in Group H.
Gary Anderson defeated Noa-Lynn van Leuven 5-2 to finish top of Group G with three wins.
