Vivianne Miedema: Manchester City forward ready to return
Manchester City striker Vivian Miedema could return against Ipswich Town on Sunday after recovering from a long-term knee injury.
The 28-year-old Netherlands international, the all-time top scorer in the Women’s Super League, has not played since October 9 and has since She underwent surgery on her left knee.
Manchester City host third-tier side Ipswich Town in the Women’s FA Cup fourth round this weekend and manager Gareth Taylor says Miedema will feature to a certain extent.
“It’s such a positive thing to have Viv back,” Taylor said. “We’ll see her (against Ipswich) which is really good.
“We know what a top player she is and how much influence she has on other players. She helps other players perform better just by being on the court.
“She has such a talent and gives a lot of time and space to other players while also doing well herself. It’s great to have her back.”
The Netherlands international has scored twice in five games in all competitions since joining City in the summer.
Taylor said Miedema’s minutes will be managed upon her return, but her return is a huge boost for the WSL side as they still have Alex Greenwood, Lauren Hamp and Khadija Shaw were absent due to injury.
“I’ve been very impressed with Viv as a person and as a player,” Taylor added.
“She’s one of the best people I’ve ever worked with in the way she makes the game look so easy.
“Her appreciation and her natural ability are second to none. I’m very excited for the second half of the season and hope we can keep Viv as healthy and ready as possible.”
“It’s really exciting to know what kind of team we’re going to have when we get our full quota back.
“She’s getting stronger with us because of her hard work off the court.”
