US Levels Genocide Accusations Against RSF in Sudan – Africa.com
The United States has accused Sudan’s Rapid Support Forces (RSF) of committing genocide in the ongoing conflict and imposed sanctions on its leader, Mohamed Hamdan Dagalo, also known as Hemeti. Secretary of State Antony Blinken, who announced the sanctions, said Doctors Without Borders had committed “systemic” atrocities against the Sudanese people, including the murder of men, boys and babies, and racially targeted sexual violence against women. The United States has previously accused Doctors Without Borders and its allied militias of war crimes and ethnic cleansing in Sudan’s West Darfur region. In response, Reporters Without Borders criticized the United States for adopting double standards, claiming that sanctions would complicate the crisis. Since April 2023, the RSF has been involved in a brutal conflict with the Sudanese military, leading to one of the world’s worst humanitarian crises. According to reports, more than 150,000 people have died and 24.6 million people face severe hunger.
