Aberdeen buy Latvia captain Tobers from Grasshoppers Zurich
Aberdeen have signed Latvian captain Christos Tobers from Grasshopper Zurich for an undisclosed fee.
The 24-year-old centre-back moved to Pittodrie on a three-and-a-half-year deal and has made 37 appearances for the team, bringing “real leadership qualities” according to head coach Jimmy Thelin.
“We’re really happy we were able to get this deal done for Clijsters because we had to fight hard to get him here,” Thelin added.
“We’ve done a lot of work behind the scenes over the last few months but he believes in what we’re trying to build and how competitive we want to be domestically and in Europe.”
Tobers becomes Dons’ second signing of the January transfer window Danish winger Jeppe Okels On loan from Preston.
Tobers spent three and a half years with Polish side Krechia Gdańsk before moving to Swiss Super League club Grasshoppers in the summer of 2023, where he made 44 appearances.
The Latvian defender says Aberdeen is “the right place” and will “help me grow”.
