Seychelles and Kenya discuss candidature for the position of Chairperson of the African Union Commission – Africa.com
Chief Minister Mr Jean-François Ferrari met with Mr Raila Odinga from Kenya on Wednesday 8 January 2025 at the Maison Quéau de Quinssy to discuss the latter’s candidacy for the Chair of the African Union Commission (AUC).
During the meeting, Mr Odinga outlined his vision and priorities, which will guide his campaign for the AUC Presidentship 2025-2029.
Chief Minister Ferrari thanked Mr Odinga for his personal campaign visit to Seychelles and noted that Seychelles is giving due attention to the upcoming elections. He stressed that the African Union Commission should also include certain issues in its development agenda, such as the challenges faced by African island countries. He reiterated that the country will support candidates it believes will change the AUC and meet the aspirations of its member states.
The election of the AUC President and Vice-President will be held in February 2025 during the African Union Summit in Addis Ababa.
