Abdullah Hayayei: UK Athletics and former head of sport Keith Davies charged with manslaughter after Paralympian’s death

British Athletics and the organization’s former sporting director Keith Davies have been charged with manslaughter over the death of Paralympic athlete Abdullah Hayei.

The Crown Prosecution Service (CPS) has charged British Athletics with “corporate manslaughter and breaches of work health and safety laws”.

Davis, 77, was charged with “gross manslaughter and breaching the Work Health and Safety Act”.

UK Athletics and Davies are due to appear at Westminster Magistrates’ Court on January 31.

Hayei was training for the World Paralympic Athletics Championships in London when the incident occurred.

The United Arab Emirates thrower was scheduled to compete in the shot put, discus and javelin F34 events.

Hayayei, a father of five, made his Paralympic debut at Rio 2016, finishing sixth in the F34 javelin and seventh in the F34 shot put.

London 2017 was supposed to be his second world championship appearance. At the 2015 competition in Doha, Qatar, Hayei finished fifth in the discus F34 event and eighth in the shot put F34 event.

A moment of silence was held for Hayaya at the opening ceremony of the World Para Athletics Championships at the London Stadium.
