The Google Nest Hub (formerly Home Hub) is a great way to start a Google-centric smart home. It uses Google Assistant to respond to all the same voice commands as the Google Home smart speaker. The touchscreen shows you additional information when you ask about the weather, search for restaurants, and more. Additionally, you can use this smart home hub to watch videos or scroll through family photos.
In fact, the unique adaptive brightness sensor makes the Nest Hub an excellent digital photo frame because it adapts to light levels and color temperature so it always looks like the actual photo in the frame. You can set it to play a scrolling slideshow of family photos as a screensaver. Google’s soli Also available on second-generation models sleep perception Quick gestures, such as air tapping in front of the display to pause media.
The Nest Hub is also a great kitchen helper because it walks you step-by-step through recipes and you can multi-task while cooking. Set timers, play music, add ingredients to your shopping list—the Nest Hub even saves your place in recipes for the next time you need to check back. You plug it in and set it up on your Wi-Fi network using the Google Home app, then ask the Google Nest Hub any questions you’d ask the original Google Home.
All of these voice control features make the Nest Hub useful in many ways, but the simple control panel makes it the best choice for centrally connecting your home devices. Swipe down from the top to find shortcuts to turn off lights or check smart home security cameras. You can then click to see a room-by-room (living room, kitchen, etc.) overview of all your devices. The control panel is well organized and helpful, especially if your family members have a hard time remembering how to say voice commands. Now, they just click.
The Nest Hub is our favorite smart display for an affordable $100. It’s useful even if you don’t have many smart home gadgets, but it’s essential if you want a smart home that works with Google Assistant.

If having an extra screen in your home bothers you, the Google Nest Mini is another great smart home starting point. Google’s small smart speaker is now in its second generation, offering the same Google Assistant-enabled voice commands as its other products, as well as useful extras like talkback functionality and stereo pairing with multiple Minis. Just ask to control your compatible gadget, search the web, play music, and use its other features. The audio quality of the Nest Mini is surprisingly good, especially the second-generation model.
The Nest Mini is also cute and comes in four colors (although the coral one is currently out of stock). At $49, it’s the cheapest way to try out smart home features without sacrificing voice control capabilities. The Nest Mini is also a great secondary device. If you put the Google Nest Hub in your kitchen, you can put the Nest Mini in a different room, and both can control any compatible smart devices you set up. Even if they all hear you, only those closest to you will respond.

Nest smart thermostats have been a mainstay in the smart home space for years, and in 2024, we finally get a new one Nest Learning Thermostat (4th Generation)the effect is very good. Although pricey, the overall design of this thermostat is stunning, with a large display that simulates weather conditions.
However, sensors and smart features also allow thermostats to learn and adjust to your climate preferences over time, keeping you comfortable and saving money. It’s perfectly integrated into the Google Home ecosystem with remote temperature sensors, one of which is included in the box to help monitor climate and activity in your home.
Installation is very simple and can be installed in almost any home as it does not require a C wire, which is often required in some older homes or HVAC systems.

Arlo Pro 5s ranked high List of several of our security camerasand for good reason. This 2K camera features powerful zoom, a bright spotlight, two-way audio, color night vision and a wide 160-degree field of view. Its IP65 weather resistance handles typical rain showers well.
We’re also fans of the Arlo app, which makes setup and control easy. However, many features are locked in Arlo Security Subscriptions start at $10 per month, so you’ll want to seriously consider a subscription plan for this camera. The good news is that higher-level plans unlock advanced custom object detection features that other cameras don’t currently offer.

As 2024 approaches, ADT integration with Google Nest is complete ADT Plusthe new version of ADT’s home security system, built from the ground up to work with Google Home, Nest devices, and Google Assistant. You can control your Nest devices using Google Home or the ADT Plus app. ADT Plus also uses Nest’s familiar face technology for its Trusted Neighbor Pass, which unlocks smart locks when a Nest Doorbell recognizes a family member or pet sitter.
ADT’s kit has also received minor improvements, making the sensor more compact than ever. Displays like the Nest Hub Max also work well with the system. However, some of the old ADT warnings are still worth noting, particularly the $8 monthly subscription fee. This subscription offers 24/7 professional monitoring, but is a simple system that only includes the base, a door and window sensor, a yard sign, and some stickers, so buyers should always check the fine print.

Combine that with another Nest product, and the Nest Doorbell is a top-notch wireless device with great specs and unique features. While its predecessor, the Nest Hello (now called the Nest Doorbell (Wired)), is still available for purchase, the battery-powered option has a more impressive design and better performance, making it an upgrade on nearly every level .
The battery-powered Nest Doorbell is affordable at $180 and offers a neat set of features: two-way talking, HD resolution, 145-degree field of view, 3:4 aspect ratio, smart alarms, facial recognition, and other cool stuff Welfare. As icing on the cake, many of the best features are available out of the box—no monthly Nest Aware subscription required.
While I prefer some video doorbells (namely the Arlo Wireless), the Nest Doorbell (battery-powered) is a solid device. If you’re a Google loyalist or looking for a wireless device with smart features and no monthly fees, this video doorbell might be for you.

WiZ is a smart lighting brand that has greatly improved its products and features over the past few years. Smooth and consistent connectivity, affordability, and Spacesense motion sensors make these lights stand out.
Connecting these lights to your Google Home system is as easy as following a few prompts in the app. Once connected, you get all the expected features of a smart light, including remote control, brightness control, scheduling, automation, and more from anywhere with an internet connection. But the most interesting feature is Spacesense.
This feature helps the bulb act as its motion sensor and allows it to turn on and off when motion is detected. Using the mobile app, you can link multiple WiZ bulbs and have them react in sync when motion is detected. For what these bulbs offer, and for only $17 for a three-pack, it’s hard to beat.

Smart plugs are a great way to effectively add connectivity to dumb devices. Plug in a light or fan and you can control it from an app. The TP-Link Kasa smart plug offers smartphone app control and Google Assistant compatibility. Plus, the design is attractive and doesn’t block adjacent outlets.
It doesn’t monitor energy, but the smart plug lets you control an old-school floor fan with your voice at an affordable price. Like most smart plugs, it supports 2.4GHz Wi-Fi network connectivity.
