his posts Adding: “My thoughts are with the family and friends of the deceased.”

“We need to be careful”

Mark Rodney, chief executive of Project Lifeline, an organization dedicated to combating youth knife crime, described the killing as “yet another devastating blow to the community”.

“We need to focus on what’s really going on in the community and start looking at other avenues to find solutions,” he said.

“He’s still a kid, he’s still a baby, he’s not living his life yet.

“The community has not yet healed from the trauma caused by Daèjaun’s death.

“I believe two weeks ago this young man was laying flowers to a young man who died in September and he had no idea that he would be that person today.

“Two weeks ago, he wouldn’t have believed he would be in the position he is in today.”

Lord Mayor of London Sir Sadiq Khan said: “My thoughts are with the family, friends and wider community in Greenwich following the murder of a 14-year-old boy.

“This heartbreaking act of violence has absolutely no place in our city.

“I am in close contact with police leaders – inquiries are ongoing and local residents will see increased patrols in the area.”

The London Ambulance Service said it sent an ambulance crew, a paramedic in a rapid response vehicle, an incident response officer and a tactical response team paramedic as well as the London Air Ambulance.

A spokesman said the teenager was pronounced dead at the scene “despite the best efforts of our staff”.
