Danny Care: Scrum-half says he will stay with Harlequins for 2025-26

Mike Hansen, BBC Sports Rugby League News Correspondent:

Kyle is widely expected to follow in the footsteps of his former team-mate and friend Joe Marler and hang up his boots at the end of the season.

Those expectations were set in part by Kyle himself.

“At the time of writing, I am still a Harlequins player, although whether I make it to the end of another season remains to be seen,” he wrote in his autobiography, released in the autumn.

“The pain in my knees and shoulders doesn’t go away and sometimes I’d rather be somewhere else than on the training ground. Rugby is not an old man’s game.”

However, with the help of modern conditioning and recovery methods, players are able to play for longer periods of time.

Care’s former Harlequins team-mate Mike Brown, who turns 40 this year, is still playing for Leicester City, while former Premier League stalwart Jimmy Gopperth, 41, is playing in Ligue 2.

Kyle’s decision to stay could impact Quins’ succession plans.

As well as Will Porter, they also rate 18-year-old Lucas Friday highly as an option at scrum half. However, it is reported that they Queue up with Sale’s Raffi Quirke, external As an end-of-season alternative to nursing.
