Troy Deeney’s Team of the Week: Barkley, Mac Allister, Diallo, Savinho Jimenez, Gibbs-White
Amad Diallo (Manchester United): The Anfield draw was a game of growth for Diallo. Every now and then there’s a game and everyone says “he’s right there” and in the Manchester United game against Liverpool he was brilliant and Liverpool were flying high and everyone thought they were going to be six or seven points ahead win. The problem he faces now is that everyone expects him to perform well every week. At such a young age everyone will start to see him as the main guy under this coach so there will be a lot of pressure on his shoulders very quickly, but for now let’s appreciate how good he is.
Raul Jimenez (Fulham): I could have given this to Alexander Isak again because he scored goals and showed his class, but Jimenez scored two goals – yes, they were both penalties, but you still have to score ball. He leads the team well and he has to start scoring goals consistently for Fulham to get into Europe, which I believe they can. He’s Mexico’s all-time Premier League goalscorer and he’s coming back from a serious injury, so it’s great to see him doing well.
Savinho (Manchester City): Another growth game. Beautiful trickery, creating the first goal via a deflected cross. He absolutely tore West Ham’s right hand to shreds and caused trouble all day long. He set up Erling Haaland’s goal with a cross that both the goalkeeper and defender thought they could get, but couldn’t. Really positive for him, but we need to see this more often.
