Mack Hansen: Ireland wing faces hearing after refs comments following Connacht loss
Ireland winger Mark Hansen will face a disciplinary hearing on Wednesday after criticizing the refereeing at Connacht following last month’s defeat to Leinster.
Hansen said the referee’s decision in his side’s 20-12 loss to the United Rugby Championship (URC) at the Aviva Stadium on December 21 made them feel like they were playing against “16 men”.
Connacht boss Pete Wilkins was asked if he agreed with Ireland’s statement, before the 26-year-old jumped in to add: “Can I just say a quick word about the situation?
“Like, I feel like we get messages like this every week. We never get any calls. I’ve felt that way for years.”
Hansen, who scored 13 goals in 27 games for Ireland, will appear before the URC disciplinary committee for a hearing.
Section 3.3.13 of the URC Disciplinary Guidelines states that foul conduct may include “unsportsmanlike and/or insulting” remarks.
Connacht face Lyon in the European Challenge Cup on Friday, while Hansen is expected to be part of Ireland’s Six Nations squad for the match against England on February 1.
