Motion isolation describes the degree to which a bed inhibits surface motion. If you sleep with another person who moves around a lot, or have a furry friend that jumps up and down on the bed, you know how important motion isolation is.
We tested motion isolation in two ways. First, I lay on the bed and close my eyes. Then, a teammate moves on the bed next to me, varying the degree of movement to get the full picture. Next, we perform a water test, which involves rolling around or away from a glass of water next to the bed. We note how much water moves and whether the glass tips over.
edge support
Edge support is the strength of the perimeter of the bed. This is an important factor if you tend to sleep on the side of your bed like I do. To test edge support, we sat on the edge of each bed and lay on the edge of each bed to test and evaluate how well it slumped. It doesn’t have good edge support if it feels like I might fall over.
