Grand Slam of Darts: Rob Cross into last 16 with 5-1 win over struggling Peter Wright

Rob Cross sealed his place in the last 16 of the Darts Grand Slam with a confident performance as he defeated Peter Wright 5-1.

Wright looked out of form against Wolverhampton and Kroos saw off his opponent with ease in the opening two legs.

Kroos’ victory moved him into second place in Group C behind Martin Lukeman, who beat Leonard Gates 5-3.

“I don’t like seeing people suffer. I feel for him (Wright). It’s great and I’m over it, but he’s a great guy and deserves more,” Kroos told Sky Sports.

“I expected more from him tonight and it never came through, and he’ll probably admit that. I hope he does come back and rebuild.”

Elsewhere, James Wade struck a brilliant 121 to claim the Group A title with a 5-1 victory over Rowby-John Rodriguez.

Wade advanced to the knockout round alongside Mickey Mansell, who lost 5-1 to Already Eliminated Luke Humphreys.

Danny Noppert defeated Martin Schindler 5-2 in Group B to advance to the next round with a 100% record. Martin Schindler missed four darts to secure promotion to the third leg, which would see him advance as runner-up. Conversely, Cameron Menzies advanced on leg count despite losing 5-1 to Beau Greaves in his final match.

In Group D, Ross Smith defeated Connor Scutt 5-0 in the final 11-dart leg to qualify behind European champion Richie Edhouse (Ritchie Edhouse), who defeated Dave Chisnall 5-2.

The remaining eight places in the last 16 will be decided at the end of the group stage on Tuesday.
