United Nations (UN) Women Uganda and Netherlands Embassy kick start plans for a groundbreaking Beijing +30 campaign on Gender Equality
On Friday, November 22, the Embassy of the Netherlands and UN Women co-hosted a breakfast meeting at the residence of the Dutch Ambassador to Uganda. The event brought together female heads of mission, UN agencies and male change-makers to discuss advancing women’s rights and gender equality, and explore the idea of ​​launching joint events in 2025 to mark Beijing+30.
The event envisaged aims to highlight positive narratives around gender equality and ending violence against women. A series of events and discussions will be organized in 2025, pairing female heads of delegation and heads of UN agencies with selected male change-makers from the Ugandan government, civil society and diplomatic corps. This unique collaboration aims to amplify grassroots voices, including perspectives beyond Kampala, while aligning with existing structures and Government of Uganda initiatives.
Attendees expressed strong support for the event, which will celebrate Uganda’s progress on gender equality and highlight how achieving gender equality benefits everyone. It will also provide an opportunity to envision a future of shared prosperity and inclusion through greater gender equality.
