Embassy of Sri Lanka in Addis Ababa commences work for the new year 2025
The Embassy of Sri Lanka in Addis Ababa organized a New Year 2025 commemoration event at the Embassy on January 1, 2025, where the dedicated staff of the Embassy and their families gathered to pay their heartfelt respects for the arrival of the New Year.
The ceremony began with the head of the delegation hoisting the Sri Lankan flag, followed by the playing of the national anthem, a stirring reminder of the shared identity and values ​​of the homeland.
The assembly then observed a two-minute silence to pay tribute to the heroic souls who sacrificed their lives for freedom, territorial integrity and defense of the country. The ceremony continues with the lighting of the revered oil lamp.
Sri Lanka’s Ambassador to Addis Ababa delivered an inspiring speech setting out the vision to start work in 2025 and unveiling Clean Sri Lanka, a national initiative aimed at promoting stewardship and sustainable development. He expressed his gratitude to all the staff and their families who have contributed to the achievements of the embassy in the past year, and said that the arrival of the New Year requires greater efforts and dedication.
The Ambassador also emphasized that 2025 is expected to be a transition year for Sri Lanka and the host country. He stressed that the new year brings new impetus to all public institutions, including the Embassy of Sri Lanka in Addis Ababa, to take stabilizing actions and fulfill the tasks and aspirations of the new Sri Lankan government. The Ambassador therefore called on all staff to resolve to use 2025 as the basis for progressive transformation to improve the efficiency, effectiveness, accuracy and transparency of public services while implementing the Clean Sri Lanka initiative to achieve a fruitful transformation of individual and institutional capabilities Target.
In addition, the head of the delegation stressed the need to accelerate the efforts of the delegation, fulfill everyone’s responsibilities, and move towards a glorious future together, while expanding relations with Ethiopia and co-resident countries Djibouti and Somalia with a recognized multilateral institution: the African Union (AU) in partnership with the United Nations Economic Commission for Africa (UNECA). He also stressed the need to work with partner countries and accredited economic development institutions to effectively mobilize resources and energy and expand industrial capacity in identified key sectors such as tourism, agriculture and fisheries.
Following the ambassador’s address, participants recited the Clean Sri Lanka Pledge, reaffirming their dedication to preserving the beauty and integrity of the environment. The entire event culminated in a precious family photo capturing the spirit of unity and friendship among all attendees, followed by delightful refreshments.
In addition, the Ambassador planted a tree at the official residence, marking the launch of the Green Sri Lanka initiative.
The Ethiopian New Year 2025 commemoration symbolizes the fusion of unity and dedication, fostering a sense of cooperation, mutual understanding and respect to better achieve common goals in line with the Embassy’s 2025 Action Plan.
