Wesley Fofana: Chelsea defender could miss rest of season through injury
Chelsea defender Wesley Fofana could miss the rest of the season with a hamstring injury.
The 24-year-old French centre-back was injured when he stepped on the ball while challenging Aston Villa striker Ollie Watkins on December 1 during the Blues’ 3-0 win.
Prior to this, he had started 12 of Chelsea’s 13 Premier League games, missing just one due to suspension.
At the time, coach Enzo Maresca predicted he would be out for “at least three, four, five weeks.”
But the Italian has now said it is a “huge blow” that his centre-back will be out for a “long period of time”, although surgery is not yet required.
“Unfortunately, he may miss the entire season,” Maresca said. “We don’t quite know.”
