United Cup: Katie Boulter leads Great Britain to quarter-final
Katie Boult defeated Australia’s Olivia Gadecki in straight sets to secure England’s place in the Fed Cup quarter-finals in Sydney.
Bolt knows that a straight-sets win in any of the three games against the hosts will make Great Britain the Group F champions.
In the first game, Bolt won 6-2 6-1 in 70 minutes, helping Britain lead 1-0 and ensuring promotion.
England beat Argentina 2-1 Tuesday’s game in their first game.
“I’ve been trying to avoid all this statistics but last night we had dinner with (former British number one) Laura Robson and thankfully she told me I had to win in straight sets, ” Bolt said.
“So I felt the pressure of last night.”
Bolt’s fiancé, Australia’s Alex De Minaur, will face Billy Harris in the men’s singles before the mixed doubles, but neither result will affect Britain’s promotion.
Bolt planned to compete in the mixed doubles, but De Minaur did not.
Alexander Shevchenko helped Kazakhstan reach the quarter-finals as they knocked out defending champions Germany, who were without world number two Alexander Zverev with a biceps injury.
Poland also qualified, with Iga Swiatek beating Karolina Muchova of the Czech Republic.
