The man convicted of the 2015 kidnapping of Dennis Haskins in Vallejo, Calif., is scheduled to appear in Santa Clara County Court on Monday to face new charges in a separate case.

Matthew Muller is currently serving a 40-year sentence Haskins was booked into an Arizona jail for raping and falsely imprisoning him in what police initially thought was a hoax.

The Santa Clara County District Attorney’s Office announced that forensic DNA testing has now led to new charges in a series of home invasion sexual assaults in Mountain View and Palo Alto.

What are the new charges against Matthew Mueller?

The Santa Clara County District Attorney’s Office accused Mueller of breaking into the homes of women in Mountain View and Palo Alto. Prosecutors said Mueller allegedly drugged two women and then sexually assaulted them.

Both attacks occurred within a few weeks of September and October 2009 and have not been resolved.

Investigators did initially identify Mueller Possible suspect in Palo Alto case. However, detectives said they did not have enough evidence to charge him at the time.

Mueller is scheduled to appear in Santa Clara County Court on Monday at 1 p.m.

The real “Gone Girl” case

Mueller is a native of the Sacramento area Convicted in 2022 The 2015 kidnapping and rape of Vallejo resident Denise Huskins.

Police initially thought the disappearance was a hoax and charged Heskins’ boyfriend, reminding many of the plot from the popular novel and movie “Gone Girl.”

However, Mueller was eventually linked to the case and was arrested for Heskins’ kidnapping and burglary in Dublin.

Haskins kidnapping case draws attention again in 2024 Netflix documentary ‘American Nightmare’ released It details the case.

Following the release of the documentary, Vallejo police were once again criticized for their handling of the case. The department has been sued for its handling of the kidnapping incident.
