Troy Deeney’s Team of the Week: Fernandes, Salah, Cunha, Isak, Onana
Mohamed Salah (Liverpool): He’s great, isn’t he? Every time I thought he was going to slow down or get ready to go, he kept getting better and better. After losing at Manchester City, he scored and assisted again on a big weekend for Liverpool. This was an attacking opportunity for Liverpool, who performed well against Aston Villa.
Matheus Cunha (Wolves): There have been a few games I’ve watched this year where when I saw a player I thought “he’s better than every other player on the field.” But Cunha is far better than Southampton and his Wolves team-mates. He is one level above his class. Look at the way he carried the ball and the defensive work he did – when he fired the ball into the top corner, it was the first time my wife had scolded me for screaming at the goal. So he gets extra credit for making me lose my cool.
Ewan Visa (Brentford): Visa scored two more goals, but he kept a low profile. When Ivan Toney was at Brentford he was a regular player and now everyone thinks this is Bryan Mbeumo’s team but in the last 18 Wissa had a great month. When he’s fit and available, Brentford look like the right set.
Alexander Isaac (Newcastle): This is the first time Isaac has made the team this season. He scored one goal and assisted one against Forest and had an excellent tandem performance. He could have added another goal in the second half as well. When Newcastle played, he was like “yeah, look at this”. He can take it to the next level and carry his team.
