Dallas Mavericks star Luka Doncic’s home targeted in string of home burglaries
Dallas– Dallas Mavericks star Luka Doncic’s home was burglarized Friday, the latest in a series of break-ins affecting high-profile athletes.
Dallas police confirmed to CBS News Texas that they responded to Doncic’s Guernsey Lane home around 10:30 p.m. Police said a preliminary investigation indicates an unknown suspect entered the home and stole items.
The Mavericks star has yet to publicly comment on the incident.
In November, due to an increase in break-ins, the NBA issued a memo urging players to increase home security when away from home. cbs sports the report said. The memo, obtained by The Associated Press, includes recommendations for updating alarm systems, storing valuables in safes, using protective guard services during road trips and keeping dogs as a safety measure.
The memo also states that the FBI linked the burglaries to a well-organized “South American transnational theft ring” that utilized advanced technology and technology, including pre-surveillance, drones and signal jamming devices. The FBI believes the gangs focus on cash and items that can be resold on the black market, such as jewelry, watches and luxury bags.
In addition to Doncic, other NBA players targeted include Boston Celtics shooting guard Jaylen Brown, Minnesota Timberwolves guard Mike Conley and Milwaukee Bucks center Bobby Poe, CBS Sports reported Teece.
Portis reported that “most of my prized possessions” were stolen in the November incident and he is offering a $40,000 reward for information leading to their recovery.
NFL athletes have also fallen victim, including Kansas City Chiefs stars Travis Kelce and Patrick Mahomes (who were targeted days apart in October) and four Cincinnati Bengals Shooting guard Joe Burrows.
The break-in at Doncic’s home occurred on the same day that AP sources confirmed that Doncic will miss the game a month ago. Reassess calf injuries Lost to the Timberwolves on Christmas Day.
Doncic’s strained left calf underwent an MRI, a person familiar with the matter reportedly told The Associated Press.
According to the Associated Press, Doncic’s long-term absence may disqualify the five-time All-NBA player from competing for major awards, including MVP.
Prior to his injury on Christmas Day, Doncic had missed eight games, five of which were due to a sprained right wrist.
