Today’s strands The puzzle was probably written just for me. I co-wrote What happened to the pudding lolly?a book about the lost toys, tastes, and trends of the 1970s and 1980s, so I’m pretty familiar with the fashion and beauty styles of that era. If you remember acid-washing your jeans and still own a Benetton sweater or two, you should be well on your way to completing today’s puzzle. But if you need some hints and answers to today’s Strands puzzle, keep reading.

Additionally, I explored in depth Strands rules in this story.

Hints for today’s Strands puzzle

Today’s topic is: return to style

If that doesn’t help you, here’s a clue: leg warmers and shoulder pads.

Clue words used to unlock in-game hints

Your goal is to find hidden words that fit the theme of the puzzle. If you’re stuck, find any words you can use. Whenever you find a three-word word of four letters or more, Strands displays one of the themed words. These are the words I used to get these tips, but any word you find with four or more letters will work:

  • REEK, SAND, NONE, SMUT, MILL, PREM, MUTE, MUTES, MULL, NREAK, SMIT, JUMP, JUMPS, BRIS

Answers to today’s Strands puzzle

These are topic-related answers. The goal of the puzzle is to find all of them, including the spangram, a topic word that extends from one side of the puzzle to the other. When you have all of those letters (I originally thought there were always eight, but later learned the numbers can vary), every letter on the board will be used. Here are the non-Spangram answers:

  • Neon colors, perms, mullets, spandex, jumpsuits, trench coats

Today’s Strands spangram

Today’s Strands spangram is The eighties. To find it, start with the E three letters from the left on the top row and work your way down.
