Australia v India: Uncapped Nathan McSweeney to open in first Test at Perth
Nathan McSweeney will make his debut for Australia in the first Test against India in Perth.
The 25-year-old made his first-class cricket debut in the recent match against India A and scored 14 and 25 runs.
McSweeney will start alongside experienced batsman Usman Khawaja, while uncapped Josh Inglis is also included in the 13-man squad .
The first Test begins on November 22, followed by games in Adelaide and Brisbane, a Boxing Day Test in Melbourne and a New Year’s Test in Sydney.
McSweeney, who averages 38.16 with six centuries, is first-class and comes as Australia looks for a stable replacement to retire David Warner, who is better than previous openers Marcus Harris and Cameron Bancroft was preferred.
Former captain Steve Smith was briefly the opener at the start of the year but has since returned to his preferred number four, with Marnus Labuschagne at third.
Captain Pat Cummins leads a strong bowling attack with left-arm pacer Mitchell Starc, seamer Josh Hazlewood and Sco Scott Boland along with off-spinner Nathan Lyon.
India has won the last four Border-Gavaskar Trophy Test series.
