‘World-class’ Schoeman signs long-term Edinburgh deal

Scotland prop Pierre Schoeman has signed a new contract with Edinburgh until 2028.

The 30-year-old liberal has made over a century of appearances since joining the capital club in 2018 and has cemented his place in Gregor Townsend’s Scotland squad after making his debut in 2021.

He has now made 37 appearances for his adopted country and has gained residency status, and is widely expected to receive a call-up to the British and Irish Lions next summer.

Schoeman has signed a new contract in Edinburgh, along with Scotland international Duhan van der Merwe, amid interest from abroad.

“I’m really honored to be staying for at least another three years,” South Africa-born Schoeman told the club’s media.

“My wife Charissa and I have enjoyed every minute of our time in Scotland, which is now our home.

“Our lives are here – it was an easy decision to renew with a club that means a lot to me. There are other clubs interested but I have unfinished business here.”

“I look around the locker room and there’s a lot of talent here. We’re a family here and I’m really excited to re-sign.”

Head coach Sean Everett welcomed the retention of “fans’ favourite” Schoeman, describing it as “great news”.

He added: “He has developed into a world-class prop and is an outstanding role model for all our young players because Pierre gives no less than 100 per cent – he is fully committed to getting himself and The people around me get better every day.”
