Liverpool 2-0 Aston Villa: Victory gives Reds early title control
Liverpool have taken early control of the Premier League title race but Alexis Mike Allister says he doesn’t think they will be contenders at the start of the season.
Arne Slott’s side beat Aston Villa 2-0 at Anfield after defending champions Manchester City fell 2-1 at Brighton.
The result puts Liverpool five points ahead of Pep Guardiola’s side, who have now lost four games in a row.
“If we’re five points ahead of the league, that means something,” Mike Allister said.
“But we have to take it one step at a time. If you asked me before the season started, I wouldn’t have said we were candidates, but now it looks like (we are).”
His excellent start at Anfield under Slott, who replaced Jurgen Klopp this summer, continued with a ninth win in 11 games in the Premier League and a 17th win in all competitions. Achieved 15 wins.
But the Dutch boss managed expectations wisely, adding: “We are really pleased that the majority of our players are fit for what will be a difficult game.
“If I look at the next games, they will be difficult. Overall it will be a difficult season. The margin is small, we have a profit but it is small.
“We face many challenges.”
