Joel Embiid: Philadelphia 76ers star ejected after confronting referee Jenna Schroeder
Philadelphia 76ers star Joel Embiid was ejected from the team’s 111-106 win over the San Antonio Spurs after a confrontation with a referee.
With 2:59 left in the first half, Embiid charged at Victor Wembanyama, knocking the Frenchman to the ground and earning a foul from referee Jenna Schroeder.
The 76ers player got into an argument with Schroeder and then had to be restrained by officials as he ripped off his protective mask and continued to protest, resulting in him receiving two technical fouls and being ejected from the game.
Earlier, Schröder’s decision to eject Philadelphia’s Andre Drummond for two technical fouls for a challenge on Vembanyama was overturned.
“The first half was crazy,” Sixers coach Nick Nurse said.
Tyrese Maxey had 32 points, 10 rebounds and eight assists to help Philadelphia win, while Wembanyama had 26 points, nine rebounds and eight blocks.
In addition, the defending NBA champion Boston Celtics, who led by 15 points in the first half, lost to the Orlando Magic 108-104.
Tristan DaSilva scored a team-high 18 points for Orlando against the Celtics, who were out due to illness.
Shai Gilgeous-Alexander scored 41 points to help the Western Conference-leading Oklahoma City Thunder beat the Washington Wizards 123-105.
