Lance Bradley: Ospreys confident of new St Helen’s timetable

The move would require a major redevelopment of the famous old ground, still home to Swansea RFC, to increase the current capacity of 4,500 to around 8,000.

Bradley would not disclose exactly how the project is funded.

“We’re not talking about the details of financing,” Bradley said.

“It’s in place, the city has invested in this stadium and we’re delighted and grateful that we’ll be leasing it long-term.”

The Welsh rugby club previously announced they would move from Swansea.com Stadium to the smaller St Helen’s Stadium for the 2025-26 season.

The Ospreys will not start games at their new home as Swansea Cricket Club will continue to play at St Helens until the end of the 2025 season before moving to a new ground in the city.

This means the Ospreys’ first home game at the new venue will take place a few months after the start of the 2025-26 season.

They must play any home games at other venues between September and November.

“We can’t start the pitch until Swansea Cricket Club have finished their season, so that’s the end of August,” Bradley said.

“Then we will install the stands and put them into the pitch.

“This will take up the bulk of the URC (United Rugby Championship) Group One games before the autumn internationals.

“We expect to be able to move in during November, so our first games will be at the start of block two.”
