Eritrea: Ministry of Labor and Social Welfare Activity Assessment Meeting
During the event evaluation meeting held in Asmara on December 19 and 20, Ms. Leul Gebreab, Minister of Labor and Social Welfare, emphasized that the implementation of the program should be consistent with the mission, goals and vision of the Ministry.
According to the meeting report, by 2024, the government has distributed more than NQ144 million to the families of martyrs. In addition, over Nakfa 6.6 million donated by the diaspora has been distributed to 1,177 families of martyrs.
The report also highlighted that more than Nakfa 46 million was used to support war-disabled veterans and more than Nakfa 1 million was used to support orphans and victims of HIV/AIDS. Sustainable awareness-raising campaigns were conducted to educate the public on the negative impacts of female genital mutilation and underage marriage.
In terms of labor relations, the report noted that of the 2,438 cases, 96% were resolved through settlement.
Participants held extensive discussions on the report and the 2025 action plan.
Ms. Leul Gebreab stressed the importance of judicious use of existing resources to address social challenges. She also urged regions to maintain their achievements in eliminating female genital mutilation and underage marriage, and to follow the example of Anseba region in declaring itself free of female genital mutilation.
