NYPD Chief Jeffrey Maddrey resigns amid sexual misconduct allegations
New York —Another scandal is rocking the New York City Police Department.
Jeffrey Madre, the department’s highest-ranking uniformed officerresigned Friday night following explosive allegations of sexual misconduct at work.
The former department chief was accused of exchanging sexual favors in exchange for overtime pay.

Lt. Quathisha Epps filed a complaint with the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission on Saturday, alleging the abuse began last year and continued into this week.

Her attorney added, “Systemic failures within the NYPD allowed Chief Madre’s predatory behavior to continue unchecked, ultimately leading to his promotion to the department’s top unified position by Mayor Eric Adams despite his misconduct. History of Conduct and Abuse of Power.”
Adams’ office issued a statement saying, “We are deeply troubled by these allegations and the NYPD is investigating the matter. Mayor Adams is working closely with Police Commissioner (Jessica) Tisch and the NYPD is conducting a separate department-wide review , to investigate the matter. “To ensure that no senior official has used their powers inappropriately, we will refrain from commenting further so as not to jeopardize either investigation.” “
Epps also claimed Madere had an inappropriate relationship with another female detective. The allegations have come to the attention of the city’s Investigations Division as well as the Manhattan District Attorney’s Office.
A spokesperson for the Manhattan District Attorney’s Office said: “These allegations are extremely serious and disturbing and allegedly occurred at NYPD headquarters in Manhattan. We are investigating.”
NYPD chief appoints interim chief
Following Madare’s resignation, Tish named Patrol Chief John Chell as interim department chief and Transportation Secretary Philip Rivera was named interim Patrol Chief.
