Govee Table Lamp 2 review: this captivating smart lamp stole my heart and brightened my mood
Govee Table Lamp 2 Reviews
The Govee Desk Lamp 2 is priced at $69.99/£69.99, although at the time of writing there is a sale on the Govee website that brings the price down to $55.99/£58.99. That may seem a bit steep for a small glowing light, but if, like me, you like bright and colorful things, appreciate the wide range of customization options, and enjoy the convenience of smart lights, it’s definitely worth the price.
When closed, the design of the Govee Table Lamp 2 looks very beautiful. It has a modern aesthetic with silver accents and a pearl finish on the round control panel. The exterior of the lamp doesn’t have the cheap, unattractive finish that many low-cost RGB lamps have. In fact, it looks like it’s made of glass, and the ridged titanium-colored interior makes for a nice feature.
The only slight drawback I found is that the outer surface proved to be a bit of a dust and fiber magnet. I noticed a subtle texture on the sides of the cylindrical lamp and realized fiber buildup after only a few hours of use. It’s not very noticeable, though, and our review office sees a lot of cardboard boxes and products every day, so dust levels are definitely above average.
Controls on the device include power and two brightness adjustment buttons on the top panel, as well as color and scene cycle buttons that can be customized in the Govee Home app, meaning I was able to assign eight different colors to each button/ Lighting effects respectively.
Of course, the design really comes to life when the Govee Table Lamp 2 is turned on, and the effect is as beautiful as any other product. The best smart lights. The Govee Home app offers a ton of fantastic effects, including several preset color collections, an RGB color wheel, and another segmented color wheel for selecting colors. The latter assigns different emotions to different color areas; options include happiness, surprise, worry, disappointment and irritation. I’m not sure if I associate purple with “freaking out” myself, but regardless, the designated emotion amuses me. There are over 60 scene presets to choose from, and a collection of lighting effects arranged under themed tabs such as Nature, Holidays, and Sleep, and I had a blast exploring them.
My personal favorite scenes are some of the most colorful (and natural): the rainbow creates a beautiful pastel color gradient that slowly rotates around the outside of the lamp, and the fish tank shows colorful shapes rotating around the center of the lamp. A great added feature with some of these presets is that I can change the speed so I can set them to be as calm or energetic as I want them to be. In the few cases where I don’t want a colored light effect, like when I want a warm light for reading or to illuminate the surrounding area, this lamp allows me to cover the temperature range of 2700 – 6500K.
As if the vast array of scenes and color presets weren’t enough, the AI features are fantastic. It’s like an easy-to-use online chat format where I can ask it to create scenes, or take or attach photos, via text or voice commands. I decided to take a photo of a stack of boxes in my office, and the AI robot recommended a “vibrant, dynamic light effect that dances and twinkles, reflecting the colorful packaging.” I took the suggestion and the resulting light effect was a gorgeous lavender and soft orange gradient that slowly waved diagonally from the bottom upwards – which I could then save to my DIY library.
The Govee Home app is very easy to navigate and provides a great user experience. The different lighting functions are simply laid out under labeled icons, and I really appreciate that the app allows me to adjust the layout to fit my needs, allowing me to sort, hide, and show quick access and modes where I need them.
Even in a well-lit office, the Govee Desk Lamp 2 delivers wonderful brightness and color, especially in darker environments. Even in the dark against a bright white background, the light is diffused enough to not sting the eyes, while the warm light for reading and at night is soft and comfortable.
One thing I noticed is that Desk Lamp 2 got hot after a while, but not to a worrying degree. It actually proved to be a positive when I tested it in the winter, as it was nice to feel a slight warmth when using the touch controls.
After a pleasant period of testing, there’s nothing I don’t like about the Govee Desk Lamp 2, aside from collecting a bit of dust. When it’s not lit, it’s unobtrusive and attractive, like one of these table lamps. When turned on, it provides a beautiful, eye-catching, colorful light display with seemingly endless scenarios, combinations, and customizations.
As a lover of color and combination options, I’m a huge fan of this smart little lamp, so if you’re in the market for one, you won’t be disappointed with the Govee Desk Lamp 2.

Govee Desk Lamp 2 Review: Still Considerable
How I tested the Govee desk lamp 2
- I really enjoyed using Govee Desk Lamp 2 for a week
- I tested different features and customizable settings
- I looked at the brightness and visibility of the scene in bright and dark environments
I used the Govee Desk Lamp 2 on my desk in the TechRadar review office for a week as a calming and mood-boosting supplement. I evaluated the usability and performance of the Govee companion app and dug into all the different settings.
I love exploring the various presets in the app. I also made some of my own color sequences and used the AI Scene Creator based on photos and prompts.
I evaluated the different light modes in brighter and darker conditions, to see how visible they were in daylight and bright office lights, and to see how vivid the colors looked in the dark.
