Crambo wins Long Walk Hurdle for the second year running at Ascot

Crambo secured back-to-back Grade 1 long distance hurdles titles by beating Hiddenvalley Lake in wet conditions at Ascot.

The seven-year-old, trained by Fergal O’Brien and ridden by Jonathan Burke, overtook leader Beauport in the closing stages before holding on Defended his crown against Hiddenvalley Lake.

“I’m speechless,” O’Brien told ITV4. “I’m so grateful to everyone at home. It’s not easy. I’ve had my bad days.”

Beauport finished third and The Wallpark finished fourth.

Crabbo has struggled to regain the same form since his victory at Ascot 12 months ago, with disappointing races at Cheltenham and Aintree in the spring.

Crumbo started at 9-1 and needed plenty of stamina to pass Beauport, who started strong and looked set to win easily, but a powerful jump over the final fence gave the other leaders a chance to catch up. Chance.

The Strongest Leader was the most popular player and ended up in tenth place, looking like no threat to victory.
