Larne 1-0 Gent: Conference League ‘special night’ was ‘no smash and grab’ – Gary Haveron

Just last weekend, Hafron was appointed Larne manager after Nathan Rooney became director of football because he did not possess the UEFA professional license required for European competitions.

“What a great start, where do I go next? It’s incredible, it means a lot and I’m so proud of the people here. It was a special night and I hope we can have more nights like this ,” Hafren added. Responsible for hometown club.

“Steady but certainly we’ve grown into this game and the Shamrock (Rangers) game (4-1 loss at home) hurt us and we didn’t represent the league as well as we could.

“We want to come back, we want to generate momentum. There’s no better way to gain momentum than beating the best teams in Europe.”

Larne will now turn their attention to domestic matters as they aim to recover from a shaky early season in the league and aim for a third consecutive Premier League title.

They have six games in hand ahead of this weekend’s games, 22 points behind leaders Linfield, and are also in the BetMcLean Cup semi-finals and Antrim County Shield final.

Hafren said: “It’s up to me and the management team to keep performing at this level week in and week out. There’s no point in doing it now in a big game like this when there’s so much noise with the divisional league so we need to Use it as a springboard.

“We want to get back to this level, we want to compete at this level and take what we learned this year into next year.”
