King George VI Chase: Il Est Francais set for Kempton race on Boxing Day
French challenger Il Est Francais is expected to run in the King George VI Chase at Kempton on December 26, although he was pulled off in his latest start.
The six-year-old performed well in the Kauto Star Novices’ Chase at the same track and distance 12 months ago.
United coach Noel George has confirmed that he is targeting King George despite their disappointing performance at Otter last month.
“He burst a blood vessel last time. No particular reason and he has been doing well since the race,” said George, who trains the horse with Amanda Zetterholm.
“I think if he can repeat what he did last year, then I think we have a chance to win.”
Il Est Francais has odds of around 6-1 in this important race, behind Dan Skelton-trained Betfair Chase runner-up Gray Dawning (7-2).
