Water bills to rise by £31 over next five years, regulator says
The industry watchdog said water bills will rise by an average of £31 a year over five years from April.
Ofwat said the increase would be enough for water companies in England and Wales to pay for upgrades and reduce effluent discharges.
The increase is higher than Ofwat’s previous proposed increase of £19 per year, but lower than the water utility’s demand.
The move comes amid public anger over sewage being discharged into waterways and continued strains on household finances.
