Fury vs Usyk 2: Oleksandr Usyk says ‘I speak to family every day’
Heavyweight boxers Alexander Usyk and Tyson Fury are taking different approaches as they prepare for Saturday’s rematch in Saudi Arabia, especially when it comes to connecting with their families.
Both have large families, with Briton Fury revealing he had not spoken to his wife Paris for three months while in the Maltese camp.
Usyk, a 37-year-old Ukrainian, on the other hand, said he speaks to his wife and children every day but has not seen them for five months.
“It helps me — because this is my family,” Usyk said Tuesday.
“My little girl Maria started walking and saying ‘mama’, ‘dada’ (grandma). That was a real motivation for me.”
WBA (Super), WBO and WBC heavyweight champion Usyk will rematch Fury in Riyadh, six months after their classic first meeting. Usyk won via split decision.
The 36-year-old Fury was the favorite to win in the first game, but his performance was slightly inferior.
Fury tried no contact with his family to reduce distractions.
“It’s been a long training camp — three months away from my wife and kids.
“I haven’t said a word to Paris for three months. I sacrificed a lot. But it was all worth it, 100 percent.”
The Paris Fury are expected to be ringside on Saturday.
When she was six months pregnant, she lost a child She was unable to travel to Riyadh to reunite with her husband on the eve of the first game.
“People don’t see the sacrifices that are made,” she said on Instagram.
“I asked him to just focus on this fight. It seems like he’s gone forever, especially with no contact. But if this is what he needs…”
