Manchester United are ‘better’ with Marcus Rashford, says Ruben Amorim

Manchester United boss Rúben Amorim says Marcus Rashford has made the club “better” after the striker hinted he could leave Old Trafford.

The 27-year-old England international said on Tuesday that he “Ready for new challenges and next steps” throughout his career.

Rashford was dropped from United’s derby win over Manchester City at the Etihad Stadium two days ago.

Rashford’s last Premier League start was in the team’s 4-0 win over Everton on December 1, when he scored twice.

Amorim suggested the club wanted the striker from Manchester United’s youth ranks to stay, saying: “I don’t talk about the future, we talk about the present.

“A club like this needs huge talent and he’s a huge talent, so he just needs to perform at the highest level and that’s my focus. I just want to help Marcus.”

Asked about Rashford’s desire for a “new challenge”, Amorim said: “I think that’s right. We have a new challenge and it’s a difficult challenge.”

“For me this is the biggest challenge in football because we are in a difficult situation and I have said this is one of the biggest clubs in the world.

“I really hope all my players are ready for this new challenge.”

Amorim added that the club would “try different things” to help Rashford find “the best level he has shown in the past”.

Manchester United will face Tottenham Hotspur in the EFL Cup quarter-finals on Thursday.

Amorim declined to confirm whether Rashford or winger Alejandro Garnacho – who was also left out of the squad against Manchester City – would feature against Tottenham.

“We have another training session, but the situation is the same for all the other players,” Amorim said.

“If they train well, then I have to make a choice. We will see the results at the end of training.”
