Fifa Best Awards: Aitana Bonmati wins women’s player of the year award for second year
Barcelona midfielder Aitana Bonmati has been named FIFA’s best female player for the second year running.
The 26-year-old Bonmati was a key member of the Spanish team that won the 2023 Women’s World Cup, and won the Golden Ball Award for the best player in the tournament.
she was awarded Women’s Ballon d’Or In 2023 and 2024, he won the Champions League with Barcelona for two consecutive years.
“I am grateful and proud to win this award,” Bomati said.
“I’m very grateful for this award, but I always say it’s a team effort, Barca wins everything and the national team wins everything.”
Bonmati won every possible trophy at club level last season, helping Barcelona achieve a historic quadruple – winning the league title, Champions League, Super Cup and Copa del Rey.
Bomati scored 19 goals in all four games, a career-best tally, and finished ahead of Zambian striker Barbara Banda and her club teammate Caroline in the voting Graham Hanson.
