Sports Personality of the Year 2024: Armand Duplantis named World Sport Star
Swedish pole vaulter Armand Duplantis has been named the 2024 World Sports Star of the Year by BBC Sports Personality.
Duplantis – commonly known as Mondo – is considered the greatest pole vaulter of all time and broke the record again in 2024.
25 years old Paris Olympics defending champion – Became the first back-to-back men’s pole vault champion since the 1950s.
In the process, he broke both the Olympic and world records – the ninth time in his career and the second time this year.
Later in August, he broke the world record again, Set new best of 6.26m at Diamond League Silesia meetingand in 2024 won a second world indoor title and a third European gold medal.
“I’m honored to receive the World Sports Personality of the Year award,” Duplantis told BBC One.
“I’m sorry I can’t go there. I’m back in the United States and training for the upcoming season.
“This award really means a lot to me.”
