Charlie Eastwood: ‘People don’t realise the sacrifices that you make’
“A lot of people who don’t play professional sports don’t realize the sacrifices that are taking place.”
Charlie Eastwood has stood on the podium dozens of times during his career.
However, this time it felt different.
Just two days ago, the 29-year-old lost his father John after a courageous battle with the disease.
During a “whirlwind week,” Eastwood had been working on a simulator in Italy when he got the call that John was coming home from the hospital to spend his final days with his family.
He hurriedly picked up his wife Carter and their children from their home in Portugal to reunite with their family in Northern Ireland.
“It was a tough time, but it was supposed to be a great time,” Eastwood said.
“The whole family was at his bedside and back home, that was his wish.”
