United Rugby Championship: Ulster hit by injuries ahead of Munster game in Belfast

Ulster have a long list of injury concerns heading into Friday night’s United Rugby Championship clash with Irish rivals Munster at Kingspan Stadium.

Iain Henderson, Cormac Izuchukwu, Nick Timoney, Werner Kok, Nathan Doak and Aidan Morgan were all injured in the Investec Champions Trophy lost to Bordeaux Saturday.

Ulster said on Monday the six players would be “monitored through training this week to determine their fitness for Friday’s game”.

Ben Carson and Stuart Moore were injured in Ulster’s Champions League opener against Toulouse and were “always a doubt” for the interprovincial showdown.

There is some good news for Ulster, however, with defender John Cooney available for selection following the return to full squad training.

Munster lost to Castres at the weekend There’s also a price to pay for Craig Casey needing surgery after injuring his meniscus.

Taqir Abraham has dislocated his shoulder and will undergo scans to determine if surgery is needed.

Dian Bleuler was removed from the team after failing a head injury evaluation and is currently following return-to-play protocols, while Diarmuid Barron passed his HIA and will Being monitored after a shoulder injury.

Peter O’Mahony is doubtful with a calf contusion, while Jean Kleyn is seeing a specialist with a thigh injury.
