Cup final displays add to SPFL pyro charges against Celtic & Rangers
The illegal use of fireworks during Sunday’s SuperSport Cup final will be added to the SPFL’s already-imposed charges against Celtic and Rangers.
Earlier this month, the governing body announced it would take action similar display Motherwell were also cited in the semi-finals of the competition.
The clubs could face fines and will be heard by an independent panel at hearings early next year.
“The disruptive behavior that occurred before and during Sunday’s game is completely unacceptable and has once again led to the postponement of the game,” the SPFL said in a statement.
“The SPFL will liaise with Police Scotland regarding their investigation into this unlawful conduct and these incidents will also be considered as part of the SPFL’s ongoing disciplinary investigation into the use of pyrotechnics at both clubs.”
In 2023, Scotland introduced a specific law banning the use of fireworks in stadiums. Ahead of the final, Old Firm managers Brendan Rodgers and Philippe Clement condemned the use of pyrotechnics.

League rules state that “so far as is reasonably practicable” each club must ensure that supporters do not engage in “unacceptable behaviour”; that they identify any fans who engage in such behavior at matches; and that such supporters be Take “appropriate disciplinary measures”.
