Brazilian President Lula discharged from hospital after surgery to stop brain bleed
Brazilian President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva was discharged from hospital on Sunday after undergoing surgery for a brain hemorrhage.
The 79-year-old president spoke alongside doctors at a Sunday morning news conference, indicating he was doing well after head surgery.
“I am still alive with the urge to work. I will tell you what I said during the campaign. I am 79 years old and I have the energy of 30 years and the enthusiasm of 20 years to build this country,” Lula said.
Lula’s medical team said the surgery went well and Lula was able to walk and hold meetings until Thursday at home in Sao Paulo.
The leader’s doctor said international travel was not possible until further notice, but if all goes well with medical tests, he would be able to travel to the country’s capital, Brasilia.
The president also commented for the first time on Saturday over the investigation into the arrest of Gen. Walter Braga Netto, a member of President Jair Bolsonaro’s government and his 2022 running mate Caught in an alleged coup plot. Lula has largely avoided commenting on the case as the investigation remains ongoing.
