Boy, 2, dies and two critical after hit-and-run in Smethwick
A two-year-old boy has died and four adults have been injured in a hit-and-run crash involving a stolen car.
The collision between a Toyota and a gray Porsche Cayenne occurred just before 23:00 GMT on Saturday on Dartmouth Road in Smethwick, West Midlands.
A 29-year-old woman and a 30-year-old man are in serious condition in hospital, while the other 30-year-old man and woman are in stable condition.
Detectives said the Porsche was stolen in early December and the driver fled the scene.
Police believe the Porsche was leaving the roundabout on Kenrick Way when the accident occurred.
The road was closed in both directions while specialist reconstruction crews inspected the site, but has now reopened.
Detective Inspector Paul Hughes, of the Serious Collision Investigation Team, said: “I would urge the driver of the Porsche to do the right thing and come over and speak to us.
“They made the wrong decision to escape and I’m now asking them to make the right decision.”
On November 27, West Bromwich MP Sarah Coombes spoke in Parliament about the speeding issue on Kenrick Way.
She said local residents were “terrified” on Friday and Saturday nights.
