Manchester Utd manager Marc Skinner ‘hardened’ to external criticism
So what are United’s long-term goals?
Written clearly on the golden steps of their temporary training facility – “Win the WSL by 2028”.
What the club calls the “Ladder of Success” – a red ladder showing their achievements to date and boosting their overall ambitions for gold medals – is one of several new features being added to Carrington, which the club is building to rebuild.
United faced backlash this summer when the women’s team were moved out of their facilities to make way for the men’s team, but they now have most of what they need.
Facilities include recovery rooms, swimming pools, saunas, medical facilities, private canteens, changing rooms, gym, analytical equipment and games room.
As well as a pitch adapted to all weather conditions and turf to match the length of the home ground at Leigh Sports Village, the training ground also features a WSL Championship frame showing vacancies until 2028.
It is these things that Skinner is referring to when he refers to the support he feels he has.
“Words are cheap, but actions last longer. For me, what I see is action. It’s hard for me to hear these comments, but actually what I see from (Ineos) who are with us every day is not That way,” Skinner added.
“Would I like the biggest budget in the league? Of course I would, I think everyone would. But everyone wants a sustainable game.
“We want to grow, we want women to have the same rights, to grow those rights, to have funds available for all the resources. Unfortunately, we have to work for that because we’re starting from the back.
“Support isn’t always financial. Support is actually knowing you’ve got a strategy and you’re going to take action.”
