Timo Werner: Tottenham forward’s performance ‘not acceptable’ – Ange Postecoglou
Tottenham Hotspur boss Ange Postkoglu says Timo Werner’s performance after being substituted at half-time in their 1-1 Europa League draw with Rangers was “awesome” People cannot accept it.”
The 28-year-old German forward conceded the ball 16 times, failed to win five duels, and had a passing success rate of only 69%.
Former Rangers striker Steven Thompson told BBC Sportsound: “Timo Werner’s final decision on the ball has been very poor so far.
“I’d be surprised if he wasn’t hooked at halftime.”
Werner was indeed replaced by Dejan Kulusevski before players came on in the second half, and Hamza Igamane gave Rangers the lead two minutes into the second half, with Kulusevski adding the lead in the 75th minute Equalized the score for Tottenham.
“I can’t accept this performance when you have 18-year-olds (in the team),” Postkoglu said.
“I told Timo that he is a German international.”
Former Chelsea striker Werner, on loan from Red Bull Leipzig, has only scored one goal in 19 games. This is his eighth start.
With Tottenham strikers Richarlison and Wilson Odobert currently sidelined, Postkoglu added: “The moment we’re in at the moment – we don’t have a lot of options – I need everyone to at least step out and Try to provide the best possible help to themselves.
“His performance in the first half was unacceptable.
“We need everyone, including him, to contribute because we don’t have the depth to take them out if they don’t perform well. I was hoping some of the senior players would be able to perform at a certain level but that wasn’t the case tonight. so.”
The draw at Ibrox left Tottenham with just one win in their past eight games.
