On Monday, March 17, Minister of International Development Cooperation and Foreign Trade, Benjamin Dousa, visited Uganda’s Crisis Centre, which was established in the context of a major disease outbreak in response to the ongoing spread of Ebola in the country. Sweden will convey 20 million Ebola responses in Uganda through UNICEF (United Nations Children’s Fund).

“Ebola is a deadly disease that can spread rapidly. Sweden and other donors play an important role in assisting partner countries during infectious outbreaks. This has become even more critical because the United States has been a major donor to health-related efforts, suspending much of its support. On January 30, 2025, Uganda announced its eighth Ebola outbreak, with 12 confirmed cases, including two deaths so far. The response from the Uganda government and partner organizations was firm, with early vaccination within the framework of clinical trials and regular and extensive contact tracing and isolation of people who were in contact with Ebola-infected. Unlike previous Ebola outbreaks, known infections from this outbreak are mainly located in metropolitan Uganda, which can pose additional risks and challenges.
