Tierney return a selection poser for Scotland boss Clarke
Kieran Tierney’s return has put Scotland coach Steve Clark in “a lot of ideas” in the National League playoffs with Greece.
The Arsenal defender suffered a hamstring injury during the 2024 European Cup and was missing all matches in Scotland’s first match.
The 27-year-old has been rarely used by London clubs, with two 11 appearances since late December.
He has always been an indispensable player for Clark, deploying mainly to the left of two-thirds.
But Scotland successfully used two central defenders in his absence, ranking third in the group to avoid automatic relegation.
“As a coach, you want as many tough options as possible,” Clark said before the first leg in Athens on Thursday. “I have a few.
“It gives us another option. We’ve already discussed it. Hopefully we can provide the right solution for the game.”
Scotland finished a spot in the league after defeating Croatia and Poland after a home run with Portugal.
“The team’s defender is already good,” Clark said. “Obviously, we’ve changed the whole way we get into the game in the National League.
“We did four in the group stage. It worked very well. Because we also had Ben Doak speed on the right, we didn’t have the option to add Kieran to the team either.
“So, yes, that gave me a lot of ideas.”
