Manchester City 2-0 Chelsea: First defeat under Sonia Bompastor is ‘no drama’

Chelsea has been relentless this season and is the only team that remains unbeaten in the WSL after the first 16 games.

Their impressive unbeaten record may have disappeared, but hopes of winning the historic four are still alive, while Bompastor believes her team can still bounce back.

“We said we were not going to change that at the beginning of the season,” she said. “Our ambitions still exist. This is the first time we were beaten up, so it’s not a drama.”

“Unbeating is a good thing, but it’s not a trophy, so we don’t care. I hope we win the right game – the important game – and win as many trophys as possible.”

Chelsea learned of the tough way last season, and the Champions League first leg victory was taken for granted.

They beat Stamford Bridge’s Barcelona 1-0 in the semifinals before losing 2-0 in their away return.

“It’s only half of the half,” former Manchester City midfielder Izzy Christiansen told BBC Radio 5 Live. “We knew Chelsea would find more gear. They are so much quality. It was a very beautiful atmosphere on Thursday night.”

Chelsea ranked fourth in the top of the WSL and Manchester United.

Although former Manchester City striker Ellen White believes Chelsea’s focus should be on the Champions League tie when they meet in the league on Sunday.

“Chelsea just need to go to Stamford Bridge, which is the bridge they need to win the most,” she told 5 Live.

“Eventually, they made progress in the league, but they wanted to win the Champions League, so they had to go to Stamford Bridge and score a lot of points.”
