Eddie Jordan: Former Formula 1 boss dies aged 76

Eddie Jordan, the former Formula One team owner and television expert, died at the age of 76.

The Irish man with aggressive prostate cancer died early Thursday morning.

A statement from his family said: “It is deeply saddening to announce the death of former principal 1 team owner, television expert and entrepreneur Eddie Jordan Obe.

“He passed away peacefully with his family on the side of Cape Town in the early morning of March 20, 2025.”

Jordan is known for his outspoken, naughty role, and he has had a rare success among independent team owners.

His team made his debut in 1991, won four Grand Prixes in the sport’s 15 years and made a brief challenge for the drivers’ championship in 1999, before suffering a decline in fate and sold in 2005.

Jordan later became a television expert, first at BBC Sport and then at Channel 4, where his outspoken views were paired with the ability to break big news coverage.

His family’s statement said: “He worked until the last one, and his days at St Patrick communicated his ambitions for the London Irish Rugby Club, who has recently become a customer.

“Eddie and Jordan Grand Prix are known for their rock images, bringing an interesting and exciting element to F1 and consistently perform well.

“Many successful F1 drivers have credited their careers to Eddie, with world champions including Michael Schumacher and Damon Hill driving for him.

“EJ brings full charm, energy and Irish charm everywhere. We all disappeared without his presence a huge loophole.

“So many people will miss him, but he has left us many wonderful memories to make us smile in grief.”
