World Women’s Curling: Scotland’s play-off hopes boosted by double win

Scotland ranked sixth on the loop table at the Korean World Women’s Curling Championship after beating the United States with a “absolutely huge”.

Sophie Jackson’s rink has five wins and four losses in 13 teams as they want to secure a top six they need to make the playoffs.

Silvana Tirinzoni’s Swiss is currently ranked second in the world and leads eight straight wins, with the hosts winning seven games, Sweden, holders and Canada’s top seeds six games.

China won five victories, but the game was less than Scots.

After a 7-6 morning victory at Tabitha Peterson, the Scots lagged behind Japan from the third end as Sayaka Yoshimura led 3-1 with a 3-1 lead.

However, the Scots beat the ninth end and went down to the decider 5-4, but retained the hammer.

Rebecca Morrison scored twice with the final shot to secure a 6-5 victory, which led Japan to beat Japan to rank eighth in the world, ninth and ninth.

“It’s definitely huge. It’s a little tricky to some extent and it’s nice to come out and win twice in the last game,” Jackson said.

Scotland faces Turkey with Dilsat Yildiz, who lost eight games so far on Thursday before defeating Denmark, who won four games on Friday and lost four games while China lost four games.

The top eight countries in the Olympic rankings secured their position in Milan/Cotina in 2026 at the end of the event.

The UK is currently ranked eighth in the matches at Jackson and her team at the 2024 World Championships.
